Summary:

Supervise, organize, and participate in the HVAC activities; and perform a variety of technical tasks including the installation, replacement, maintenance and repair of HVAC systems and equipment and to provide staff assistance to the HVAC Supervisor.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responds to Operational Emergencies related to HVAC systems, as required; troubleshoot issues to determine causes and implement solutions.
  • Recommends and assists in the implementation of departmental goals and objectives
  • Establishes schedules and methods for the HVAC maintenance staff
  • Implements policies and procedures
  • Plans, prioritizes, assigns, supervises and reviews the work of the HVAC staff
  • Evaluates operations and activities of HVAC system installation, maintenance and repair; then recommends improvements and modifications
  • Performs tests and maintains records for emergency backup systems
  • Acquires materials and inventory as needed to maintain production of the crew
  • Repairs HVAC deficiencies as noted by State and Local fire, safety, and insurance officials
  • Estimates cost of repairs (labor, materials); purchases materials/supplies; and maintains records involving time, labor, and materials
  • Performs the most complex HVAC duties. Installs, maintains, repairs, and replaces defective or worn parts in motors, generators, pumps, breaker panels, HVAC, and Energy Management Controls, switches and other facilities and equipment
  • Troubleshoots malfunctions and identifies plan of action to resolve problems
  • Assists in the training of staff
  • Instructs all employees in safe work practices
  • Assists in the Evaluation of HVAC Department Staff
  • Manages departmental materials, equipment, and supplies

Job Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED and 7 years of experience in HVAC with at least 2 of the years being team leader experience

OR

  • Diploma or Associates degree in HVAC technology / DDC control systems and at least 3 years of experience in HVAC with at least 2 of the years being team leader experience
